What I do

About my Research

Throughout my first year as a research assistant, I was involved with a project in the domain of illegal fishing. This was my first experience working on a project with the potential to create a concrete impact in the conservation of maritime ecosystems, and I ended up developing a lightweight, web-based software tool that allows stakeholders worldwide to monitor the creation and evolution of fishing networks globally, and also identify potential criminal fishing operations based on vessel interaction patterns.

Publications

Park, Andrew J., and Stefano Z. Stamato. “Social Network Analysis of Global Transshipment: A Framework for Discovering Illegal Fishing Networks.” (2020)

Stamato, Stefano. “Social Network Analysis of Transshipment Practices in Illegal Fishing Using AIS Data.” (2020).

Industry Experience

I developed my first commercial website at age 13, and haven’t looked back since. From static web pages talking about my interests, WordPress-backed blogs, and e-commerce websites to integrated web platforms developed using Ruby on Rails, Django, PHP and React, I’ve seen web technologies evolve over time and make people’s lives easier. Through my journey I participated in several projects, some of which are still live and can be accessed below!
